The slowness found in comics is the answer to life. This work authentically captures the development and daily life of rural and urban communities in the Sichuan-Chongqing region from the 1970s to the early 2000s: New Year traditions such as slaughtering the New Year's pig and making tofu; childhood games like catching cicadas and fishing; farming activities such as planting wheat and harvesting grain; and scenes of school spring outings, family birthday celebrations, and the Second Mine Bathhouse. The characters include the narrator "me," a classmate named Fan'er who drowned, the loyal dog Ah Huang, and a kind grandmother-all warm, fully realized figures. With simple language and a palette blending vivid and understated tones, the book paints a portrait of those memorable years, brimming with the vitality of rural life and deep nostalgia for home. Through delicate depictions of scenes, the work constructs vibrant images full of the energy of rural life: a steaming cauldron during the New Year's pig slaughter, blackened slabs of smoked tofu, bamboo poles with spiderwebs for catching cicadas in the fields, and golden wheat waves in the drying yard-all spring to life on the page in playful, vivid detail. The overall color palette leans toward warm, rich tones, full of the texture of everyday life-from the woven bamboo patterns of a hand warmer to the wisps of smoke from molten iron during pot-mending-both capturing the spirit of the era and conveying the warmth of childhood memory. The comic style is fresh, with colors shifting between bold and subtle depending on the scene and time of day. The brushwork is bold and uncluttered, and the characters and scenes are vividly rendered. Drawing influence from the humor of Feng Zikai's comics alongside a personal watercolor style, and infused with the author's philosophical and playful reflections, the artwork is warm, timeless, and deeply resonant.
