1940. Stasia Niemec always felt happy in the idyllic French countryside, where she traveled every summer from Holland with her family. Those days, playing in the gardens of an old castle in Rouen and writing fairy tales, marked her forever. But that time of innocence comes to an end when the Germans invade her country. Amid the chaos of war, she soon becomes one of the most wanted agents of the Resistance and realizes that the only place she can be safe is the castle in Rouen, which becomes the center of a clandestine operation against the enemy.

Seventy years later, Isabelle sets out to renovate the ruined castle, which turns into an unexpected opportunity to reconnect with her sister Emilie, from whom she had grown distant after the death of their parents. As they work on the restoration, the corners of the castle evoke the stories their great-grandmother Stasia used to tell them in childhood. Gradually, the sisters discover that the tales they thought were fictional hide a moving testimony of courage that will forever change the way they understand their family's past.
